About the program
The Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) 2026/27 is a fully funded initiative by the Hong Kong Government, offering 400 fellowships for international students to pursue a PhD at 8 top Hong Kong universities: City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, Lingnan University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Education University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and The University of Hong Kong. Funded by the Research Grants Council (RGC), it covers fields of study including Sciences, Medicine, Engineering and Technology, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Business Studies. There is no application fee, and applicants of any nationality, gender, ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation can apply; prior work experience is not required.
Eligibility criteria
- Candidates can be from any nationality.
- Candidate must be a full-time new PhD student.
- If you don’t want to submit an IELTS report, then you must be able to prove that you have completed your previous education at an English-medium institute.
- Candidates whose previous education was not conducted in English must provide proof of English proficiency.
- The candidate must choose from the given list of 8 universities.
