About the program

The Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Program (SSEAYP) is based on the respective Joint Statements issued in January 1974 between Japan and the Republic of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Republic of the Philippines, the Republic of Singapore, and the Kingdom of Thailand. The program aims to foster friendship and understanding among youth from Southeast Asia and Japan. Participants will engage in various activities, including discussions on social and youth matters, cultural exchanges, and community service. They will also have the chance to interact with local youth in each port of call.

Eligibility Criteria

  • 18 to 30 years old 
  •  Those who were able to participate throughout the Program.
  • Those having a good command of English 
  • Those who were sound in mind and body, cooperative, disciplined, and able to work in groups in accordance with the program schedule.
  • Those who were cooperative and adaptable to an orderly group life in accordance with the Program schedule.
  • Those who had an interest and good understanding in the participating countries.

Benefits

For selected individual:

  • Participants will live together on the ship and interact with youth from different countries.
  • Travel to Japan, Singapore, and Thailand will be fully funded.
  • All accommodation, meals, and transportation are covered by the organizers.
  • Participants will take part in cultural exchange, leadership training, and international discussions.
  • Participants develop valuable skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
  • Participants will receive a certificate and join the SSEAYP alumni network after the program.

How to apply

  • Applicants must complete both the online application
  • Individuals who previously benefited from the Directorate General of Youth international programme and did not fulfil their post-programme obligations are ineligible to apply.
  • Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews. Applicants are strongly advised to read all instructions and the programme briefing thoroughly before applying or making enquiries.
