Varying based on the canton, location and personal lifestyle, the cost of living would differ. Generally, it is safe to keep around $1,800 to $2,200 per month to cover the living expense in the cities in Switzerland.

Besides this, for other universities in general, the price range of one-bedroom in student accommodation is around $600 to $1,000 per month. If students cannot get a spot in the university housing service, students can also look for accommodation outside the university. You can expect the rental costs of the accommodation in the city center to be higher than those outside the city center.  A one-bedroom apartment would cost from $1,000 to $2,200 per month.   

Food, Telecommunication, Utilities, Transportation 

The price of foods in Switzerland varies from location and cuisine. For Cambodian students who are studying in Switzerland, for dining out, the price of the food per meal is around $15 to $45 dollars depending on the restaurant. If estimating the cost of the food in terms of eating in, it would cost around $85 to $112 per week. The estimation of the utility costs including the electricity and water is around $30 to $88 per month. In some cases, the utility expense is included in the accommodation costs of the on-campus residence. Depending on the student’s personal usage, the phone bill can be around $20 per month. For transportation, students can expect to cost around $60 to $100 per month.    

Other Essential Cost 

  • Visa: The student visa is known as the National Visa or Type D visa which allows students to stay longer term of more than 90 days.  
  • Health insurance: It is a good idea to have health insurance during studying abroad. 
  • Medical checkup: For students who plan to study in Switzerland, you might also be required to undergo a medical checkup.
