About this Program

The KAIST University Scholarship 2025 in South Korea is a gateway for international students to advance science and technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The program is designed for those who exhibit creativity, welcome challenges, and have a caring mind in creating knowledge and transforming it into positive innovations. Graduate scholarship holders will receive 80% to 90% of lectures in English. KAIST offers scholarships in various disciplines, including Natural Science, Life Science, bioengineering, and business. The Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) is a world-leading learning institute with a vision of Vision 2031, which aims to become an entrepreneurial university.

International students in South Korea in 2025 have the opportunity to become integral parts of a university that creates value through technology commercialization and plays the role of a "World Bridge KAIST" through globalization. To apply for the scholarship, students must contact their university professors and receive an acceptance letter or recommendation from a KAIST professor. The application process and eligibility criteria are detailed in the article.

  • Master’s level.

  • Master’s Leading to Ph.D.

Required Documents

  • A secondary copy of the national identity card.
  • Scanned copies of your parent’s national identity card.
  • Certificate of family registration that shows your relationship with your parents.
  • Certificates of your degrees.
  • If the degree is yet incomplete, a certificate of the official letter of expected graduation.
  • English proficiency report taken within two years (Starting from September 24) IELTS (6.5), TOEFL (IBT 83/PBT 560), (BT 220), TOEIC (720), TEPS (599). You are not required to submit an EPT score if you hold citizenship from the specified countries and have obtained a Bachelor’s degree or higher, taught in English, from a physical institution located in these countries:
  • Two recommendation letters from your academic advisors.
  • In case you have employed the recommendation letters from your employer.
  • A CV
  • Honors, awards, and employment proofs.
  • All documents must be either in Korean or English.

Eligibility Criteria of the KAIST University Scholarship 2025

  • The applicant must be an international student.
  • The applicant must not possess Korean citizenship.
  • For Master’s or Master’s-Ph.D. Integrated programs: A bachelor’s degree or higher
    For Doctoral programs: A master’s degree or higher
  • A bachelor’s degree must be equivalent to a Korean bachelor’s degree (4 years of bachelor’s).
  • Master’s program applicants need to find and list up to three faculty members in the department they are applying to who share similar research interests.
  • Usually, Master’s program applicants don’t need to contact faculty members before listing their names. However, some programs do require you to communicate with faculty first. For specific details, check the “Degrees and Programs” section (page 16) or the program’s website. 
  • Doctoral program applicants are required to identify a faculty advisor from the department they are applying to and include their name in the application. It is recommended that you communicate with the faculty member before submitting your application.
    • Please first check if they offer a program that aligns with your research interests, and then learn more about their faculty members on the STARLIBRARY website,
  • If the applicant is of Korean ethnicity regardless of birth or place; he/she must have received all his/her education outside Korea or neither of the applicant’s parents is a citizen of Korea. If the applicant fulfills any one requirement from these two he/she is eligible. 
  • You must provide an English proficiency certificate such as TOEFL iBT, IELTS, TOEIC, or TEPS unless:
    1. You hold citizenship from one of the following countries and have physically studied and completed a qualification equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree or higher from an institution located in these countries:
      • Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Malta, New Zealand, St Kitts, St Lucia, St Vincent, Trinidad and Tobago, U.K., U.S.A.
    2. You hold citizenship from one of the following countries and have studied for a bachelor’s or higher degree where English was the medium of instruction. In this case, you need to provide a certificate proving the medium of instruction, such as an English Lecture Certificate or an English Proficiency Certificate from your institution:
      • Botswana, Cameroon, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Fiji, Gambia, Ghana, India, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Federated States of Micronesia, Namibia, Nauru, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Rwanda, Samoa, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Solomon Islands, Republic of South Africa, Sudan, Republic of South Sudan, Tanzania, Tonga, Tuvalu, Uganda, Vanuatu, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

 

Benefits

For Selected Student:

  • The full tuition fee will be covered (4 semesters for Master’s, 10 semesters for Master’s-Ph.D. Integrated 8 semesters for Ph.D. students)
  • A monthly stipend will be given.
  • Medical Insurance will be covered.

     

How to Apply

  • The application for admission will be submitted online.
  • The applicant has to apply for admission regularly and if the applicant meets the requirements for the scholarship, the application will be automatically considered for KAIST Scholarships 20224
  • The applicant has to pay the application fee to apply for admission. 
  • The student need to find the names of the faculty members whose research interests are align with theirs.
  • The printout of the online application must also be sent to the KAIST office address in hard form.
  • Applicants need to register in the application form: https://gradapply.kaist.ac.kr/intergradapply/ 
  • follow its instructions to finish all the required application procedures. 
  • Applicants must apply the system as requested within the application period.

Application Deadline 

  • KAIST Scholarship Online Application: September 12, 2024.
  • Application Material Submission Deadline: September 23, 2024.
